Including Your New Dentures in Your Oral Hygiene Routine

Posted .

Your new dentures installed by Dr. Amit B. Patel effectively restore the function and appearance of multiple lost teeth. Including them as an important part of your daily oral hygiene routine will help insure that it will serve you for many years to come.

Many denture wearers like to use denture adhesive to secure their dentures in place while also helping to block out food particles. If you do have food particles come between your dentures and your gums, you should thoroughly rinse them and any residual adhesive away. You can then reapply more denture adhesive to the clean surface.

At the end of the day, you should take your dentures out and thoroughly rinse them to remove any plaque buildup and residual adhesive. Then you should brush all of the surfaces of the dentures with a soft bristled toothbrush and denture polish. If you have denture implants you should also brush them and any locking hardware to remove plaque buildup. Soak the dentures overnight in water and keep them in a safe place.

You can also lightly brush your tongue and gums to remove bacteria, and freshen your breath.
